DEADLINE UPDATES

DEADLINES THIS WEEK AND SOON AFTER ...

1 Editing deadline (image and sound) - Tuesday 29th (this is an extension to the published deadline)

Remember that there are several blog deadlines too for this stage (see your booklet on the Main Task, and notices around the classroom)

2 Poster Work:
- any late work for the poster draft must be a priority (late work will have been noted under 'time management' assessment criterion)
Final 2 posters to be selected by the group and improved following feedback.
Final Deadline: Dec 9th or earlier.

+ Blog posts from must show all members contributing to decisions, and justifications (see booklet for requirements)

 3 Review
2 lessons introducing the Little White Lies review task have been postponed to your double lesson (after the editing deadline), with a review research deadline to follow very soon after (early next week).

If you have finished all other tasks (editing deadline) to a high level, you can begin research into Little White Lies review page format and language style. You can use the printed booklet and material on moodle, as well as your own research into the magazine to help you.

Initial research posts are shared group tasks.

MISSING ELEMENTS OF THE FILMING DEADLINE

Some groups have not completed all of the tasks needed for the deadline last Friday.
For example, there are missing photos from the shoot, needed for poster drafts, and some missing audience feedback. These still need to be provided to avoid losing marks as individuals.

EDITING PHASE

Final Deadline Four: Editing

Final edit (vision and sound) completed, and filed in correct folder.

On the group blog by the deadline below:

- Evidence of editing process taking place and all members of the group being involved.
- Evaluative and illustrated discussion of editing (image and sound) decision making.
- Documentation of any image editing effects used and why
- Audience feedback used in editing decision making process.
- Evaluative and illustrated discussion about sound editing – dialogue, foleys and music (techniques used, sources used, reasoning behind decision making).
- Discussion of film titles and credits used (making parallels to real media texts).
- Audience feedback gathered on the completed film – is it successful regarding Narrative, Representation, Genre, Targeting Audience and were the various aspects of Film Language successful in communicating meaning?  This needs to be thorough.

YOU ARE NOW IN THE FILMING PHASE

You are now working towards the tasks needed to complete the filming stage.
Details of things to remember for a successful shoot are in the Short Film Booklet on moodle, and I have made suggestions in lessons this week for filling any 'down time' in lessons or for independent and extension work. Look at Lesson 8 on moodle to remind yourself of those 'looking ahead' suggestions.
Here is the summary of what needs to be done by the next deadline, FRIDAY NOVEMBER 4TH @ 4PM:

Deadline Three: Filming

All raw footage (rushes) to be completed and logged on the Mac network as a ‘rough cut’.  Ensure that this is in the correct folder.

PLUS :  On the group blog by the deadline below:

- Allocation of roles for filming
- Evidence of filming having taken place – still or moving imagery.
- Evaluative discussions about the filming process – problems (and how overcome) , strengths, weaknesses. and improvements made on previous work.
- Particular discussions about new or complex filming techniques that have been used.
- Audience feedback on raw footage – ask for comments about shots – do they have desired effect on Spectator?  Could improvements be made? And so on.

- for the review and poster, research to be conducted and evidenced on the blog about how short films are promoted, with initial decisions about images to use being posted, with proposed images, and links to comparative real promotional material and reviews, where possible

CREATING YOUR ANIMATICS

As part of your DEADLINE FOR PLANNING ON OCTOBER 14th, you need to complete 2 ANIMATICS of your storyboard. These are basic animatics. You need to do the following:

·         STORYBOARD your plot using Post It Notes.
·         Present the Storyboard as Two Animatics.
o   1. One of all your shots in order, WITH EACH SHOT LASTING EXACTLY THE TIME IN SECONDS PLANNED
o   2. One with a commentary that will give more detail for KEY GROUPS OF SHOTS. (We expect to hear reference to camera shot size, angle, movement; lighting directions; character movement;; dialogue; foley sound; editing transitions; mise en scene)

Sophie will be giving further advice on best practice for this via her blog (see my blog list).

Here is an example from one of last year's blogs:
