NEW FOR 2012! IMPROVING YOUR 5 KEY THEMES APPLIED TO SHORT FILMS

Some people did this work well, reading the questions carefully, using the transition and early sept work properly, and simply making an effort. However, too many people need to make substantial improvements to achieve levels 3 or 4. All of you should be aiming for at least level 3 for this kind of work. Effort will take you far!
Frequently needing improvement:
  • not reading the questions and answering them! You were expected to, and needed to read the brief properly and answer all of the questions properly
  • lack of sufficient theory - Todorov, Neale, Altman, Fiske, Barthes - these should all be used.
  • too much reliance on Todorov for narrative theory
  • no discussion of the difference between plot and story in the films
  • lack of sufficient detail and textual analysis in the Media Language section. This should be a detailed explanation of precise shots or sequences, using terms.
  • no proper definition of audience
  • insufficient discussion of representation, using collective groups, or issues or places
  • insufficient analysis, and too much basic description
You just needed to do what it says in the brief, and work hard to understand and learn the material we covered last term.
